15 September 2021, I had the honour to serve as jury member of the doctoral defense of Krisitiaan Venken. He worked on Augustine of Hippo’s concept of order and presented a meticoulus study and discussion of every single instance in Augustine’s De ciuitate Dei. Although Kristiaan Venken penned his dissertation in English, the defense took place in Dutch. Thus, the defense was not only challenging for the candidate. Anyhow, we both mastered the challenges well. Mr. Venken earned his well deserved title, and the jury a pleasant reception, which was the first at the faculty since ‘the virus’ is in circulation.
