Lately, I frequently used Rosamund McKitterick’s masterly book on the Liber pontificalis and the invention of papacy for my ‘Migrant Popes in Late Antiquity’ paper. By strolling over the preface, I discovered myself on the impressive list of distinguished scholars whom Rosamund thanked for their support. I was as surprised as I am honoured.
